Itinerary

Day 01: Satu Mare, Baia Mare, Lake Bódi (Baia Sprie)

  • After breakfast depart from Budapest to Transylvania. On the way, stop in Eger.
  • Arrival to Satu Mare (Szatmárnémeti in Hungarian) around noon. Short sightseeing, and freetime. (if we are hungry, we can have lunch first)
  • Later we travel through beautiful Maramureș landscape and Baia Mare (Nagybánya in Hungarian) to reach our accommodation for the night at Baia Sprie.
  • Dinner at around 7-8 p.m.

 

 

Day 02: Gutin pass, Desze, Máramarossziget, Szaplonca – Baia Sprie

  • After breakfast, around 9 a.m. we begin our trip to explore Maramureș.
  • In the morning we see the unique Orthodox, wooden church at Desze.
  • Later we explore Sighetu Marmației (Máramarossziget) and have an app. 2 hours free time, during which we can have lunch.
  • In the afternoon we head to Săpânța (Szaplonca), a village famous for its „cheerful cemetery”, a unique attraction with funny short poems written on its colorful painted headstones
  • We travel back to our last night’s accommodation through beautiful scenery. Dinner will be served around 8 p.m.

 

Day 03: Iza valley, Bârsana (Barcánfalva), Borsafüred

  • This morning we wake up early to catch the train to Visér vally departing at 9 a.m.
  • This programme will last until 4 p.m., and in the meantime we will take a wonderful excursion into the mountains almost reaching the Ukranian border. We travel by an authentic steam train, stoping at multiple places, and at the final stop we will have the opportunity to taste the local cusine for lunch.
  • In the afternoon we see the wooden church of  Bârsana, which is a UNESCO heritage site.
  • By night we reach one of Romania’s most popular recreation areas, Borsafüred, where we will have accommodation for the night.
  • Dinner around 8 p.m.

 

Day 04: Moldoviţa, Sucevita, Marginea, Putna

  • After breakfast visit to the most famous and most beautiful monasteries of Bucovina.
  • In the morning we visit the Moldoviţa monastery and its museum, place for the „golden apple” the monastery received from UNESCO to honor its unique beauty. Later we go to the famous monastery of Sucevița.
  • Later free time, lunch (app. 1,5 hours)
  • In the afernoon we see how the black ceramics are made in the black pottery capital, Marginea. Later we have the opportunity to buy some of the handmade folk-art products made of ceramics, linen, wool and wood.
  • For last we visit the monastery of Putna
  • Dinner around 8 p.m

 

Day 05: Voroneț, Gura Humorului, Bicaz canyon (Cheile Bicazului), Sovata

  • After an early morning breakfast (around 7:30 a.m.) visit the monasteries of Voroneț and Gura Humorului.
  • Later we get acquainted with the art of painting eggs, with an opportunity to try our skills in the craft. We also receive an egg as a souvenir. There is also an Egg Museum nerby, where we can admie some amazing pieces and it is also possible to purchase some of the painted eggs.
  • Later we travel to Transylvania through beautiful landscape, and after arriving we take a short walk at Bicaz vanyon, which is famous for its monumental cliffs.
  • Arrive to Sovata, the most famous bathing resort, check-in to our accommodation
  • Dinner around 8 p.m.

 

Day 06: Sovata, Târgu Mureș

  • On this day we have the opportunity to swim in Lake „Lacul Ursu” (or „Bear lake) and to explore the magnificent villas and lakes of Sovata.
  • In the afternoon we head to Târgu Mureș (Marosvásárhely). After a short sightseeing transfer to the airport. Fly out to your home destination. Option: stay another 2-3 nights  in Sovata to enjoy the famous bath there.
